One Child Policy- is the population control policy of the People's Republic of China. Introduced in 1979 to help with social, economic and environmental problems. However ther are many exceptions such as rural families if the first child is a girl or is disabled, families whose parents have no sibling can have a second child, enticing minorities and many more.
Advantages:
- no over population
- do not have to spend more money on a child so they have a better living standard
- cannot handle economic growth and a large population at the same time because China does not have enough resources
Disadvantages:
- 4-2-1 problem where there will be 2 grandparents and parents will rely on one child when they grow older
- aging population
- female bride-trafficking
- many female infanticide because they want a male child due to the long tradition of son preference
- harder to control and monitor in rural areas because they need farm help
- China has first country to grow old before it has gotten rich
- commonly assumed that children offered for adoption have better lives than if they had stayed with their biological parents, higher rate of abandonment of children
Parents turning to fertility medicines to induce the conception of twins as there are no penalties for multiple births.
