China- History : One rule party

Based on the four pictures, we will reflect on the event it represents.
-What does it mean to you and to China?
-What does it say about their belief system or history?
-Can we learn any lessons from them?

Yi Jun
: Great wall of China
China's Great Wall of china is a tourist attraction as well as serve as a protection from the Manchus from the Qin dynasty onwards. The Great Wall of china was build by a lot of peasants which die from the building process due to starvation and more, this shows that the emperor who ordered the building of the Great Wall was very cruel as he only cared about his reign lasting for every and did not want any competitions from any other people thus building the Great Wall of china for protection from the Manchus. I fell that the emperor was very selfish and that the Great Wall is full of misery from the dead who was buried under the wall.

Wee hung: Great wall of China
It represents teamwork, security and protection, pride in achieving such a huge architectural marvel. To some people, it represents death because many people died building the wall. But to most, it represents a grand achievement for a powerful race of people. It shows what people are able to do if they are committed. I don't see it merely as a wall but as the strength of its people. It shows that China was often attacked by nomadic groups, or military incursions by various forces. I learned that as long as we are committed to doing something, even if its a big project, we can still complete it with teamwork and perseverance.

Sharlene: Beijing National Stadium
2008 Summer Olympics Games is what this Beijing National Stadium means to me. It is probably something they are proud of hosting the Olympics and I think that they did a excellent job in that. This design is extremely special for it is shaped like a nest-like skeletal structure and it is also largely recognized around the world for its design as it is shaped like a nest-like skeletal structure. Even at the age of 8, most of my classmates and myself knew about this stadium. The large sum of money and effort used for the construction and many other aspects such as media coverage---broadcasting of the Olympics Games fully in high definition and transport---major renovation of their airport, shows that China take pride in hosting this Olympics by putting so much effort to give hospitality to the participants and visitors as well as for countries all over the world to know more about China. We can learn to do the best in whatever we do and to take pride in what we do.

Shaun: Imperial palace museum
I think it represents peace and harmony within the country and the people being able to live a stable life without any wars occurring as this picture depicts the end of the xinhai revolution. There was no more dynastic ruling and China became a democratic country where the welfare of the commoners have become more important. We can try to make Singapore a peaceful country and try to minimize conflicts. Also, it shows that sometimes changes for the better is essential in our lives.

Esther: Great wall of China
The great wall of china was built in the qing dynasty by qing shi huang commanding the peasants to build it.  It was build over many centuries by people. Now, it is the only man made structure that can be seen from outer space.  the Great Wall its posture like a sleeping dragon sunning itself on the mountain. Therefore, the state tends to describe all people living under the Great Wall as the children of the Dragon, in order in to being out the sense of unity among Chinese people.

Fiona: Great Wall of China
The picture i have chosen is the picture of the Great Wall of China. It shows me how united and civilised China has been since a long time ago, even in the beginning of the Qin Dynasty. The people of China could unite as one to build this magnificent structure in many hundreds of years, to protect themselves from their enemies. It shows how even the Chinese people from thousands of years ago could build something like that, showing their patriotism then and now.

Lesson 4: Post presentation reflections

Yijun: I think that I prepared thoroughly for the presentation, I send a picture and went on the net to search on my topic I did, I also tried speaking to the mirror and be confident in my speech. I also take into consideration the comment I received when I did the presentation on the eraser. I also summarized the important points of the topic I am doing from the net. When I am doing the presentation, I tried to be confident in my speech and do eye contact with the audience. I was a bit nervous in my speech but in conclusion, I think that I did well for my part.

Wee Hung: I feel that my presentation was done very badly compared to my peers, because firstly, my script didn't had any of my personal thoughts and feelings. My script was just a whole chunk of information from Wikipedia. Information can be easily gotten from the internet while thoughts and feelings have to be thought of and done by yourself. This shows that my script was badly done and not much effort was out in. Thus, I felt that my presentation was done badly. The second reason is that when I was presenting, my nervousness could be seen easily. I kept pronouncing words wrongly, and I was referring to my script the whole time, so i hardly made any eye contact. All these are the 'not to dos', but I actually did them all, so I would not be surprised if i get a very bad result.

Sharlene: I enjoyed being part of the audience for other group's presentation but when it was our turn, I became really nervous. I think that the most important part that we are lacking in the Chingay presentation is our personal feelings and thoughts. It was a mistake that should not be made by only providing information. We should have took more precautions in what was looked out for a good presentation. However on presentation wise, I think that it was quite alright as the words were clearly heard and audible. The slides presented had only the main points of what each member is saying and not a whole paragraph of each word the speaker spoke. So this will allow audience to have a better understanding of the topic. As a good presenter, eye contact, audible and not monotonous voice is extremely important. If the presenter is not loud enough audience easily loose focus. Therefore, these presentation opportunity definitely trains us for future presentations as practice makes perfect and we learn from the mistakes that were made during this time.

Shaun: After the CID presentation, I am glad to say that I have enjoyed the entire process of preparing and sharing my thoughts with my classmates. It was also great listening to my classmates, learning from their mistakes and good points, and most importantly knowing how they felt about the experience! However, if there was a second chance to do all of this again, I think I would have tried to put in more effort after seeing the other groups' hardwork.

Esther: I think that for the presentation, our group were not very prepared and were lacking in many places. For example, we did not provide our feelings and reflections about the trip, but only about the segments in the chingay parade. That makes the presentation extremely boring and uninteresting. Secondly, we did not speak loud enough for the audience to hear us clearly which made hearing hard. We also did not have humor in the speech and there was little engagement with the audience. These are parts that we can improve on and do better next time.

Fiona: I think that we could have made some improvements to our presentation, and our presentation could have been a lot better. For example, some of us barely spent 1 minute speaking, when the minimum was supposed to be 3 minutes. If our individual speeches were longer and contained more details, the presentation would have been better. We also could have rehearsed more. However, due to the lack of time, we were not able to rehearse enough. Overall, I think that our presentation had space for improvement, and we could have done better. I hope that we will do better for future presentations.
